I finally bought a home theater system. Its not the best system out there, in fact, its not even mediocre. It’s Sony’s DDW790. I bought it from Amazon for only $162. All the systems I really liked were more than a few thousand dollars. I cannot spend that much on entertainment right now. I could have a decent system for around $500 but why settle for something what you really don’t want. So I figured I will save my money until I can afford what I really want and in mean time, I will simply buy a cheap system. At least, I will have surround sound. Plus based on online reviews, DDW790 has pretty decent sound and features.
My philosophy is never to settle for something now when you can get it later. Last year I wanted to buy HDTV. I was looking at 40 inches or more, but those are slightly out of my reach at that time. I decided to buy 32inch LG TV instead. It wasn’t the cheapest option I had but something I decided to settle on. Although I love this TV and picture quality is thousands time better than cheap no name brand TVs but now I am stuck with it. I don’t want to sell it because HDTVs don’t have a good resale value. I cannot give it to someone because it wasn’t cheap. And I don’t want to own 2 TVs. If I had bought a temporary cheap HDTV, then I would not have mind selling it now for a loss or even giving it away. (Actually I am don’t like buying no name brand electronics, so I should have just waited until I was able to afford bigger TV).
So the lesson is either wait or get cheap temporary alternative until you can afford what you really wanted.
