True… I think the point of his post was you have to do it a lot before you get any better at something. As you said, you may only showcase your best music but you “created” many before it.

I read in the book Outliers that it take 10,000 hours of practice of something before you are truly great at it. 10,000 hours translate roughly into 8-10 years of practice.

Like anything, I suppose the appropriate answer is “It depends.” But there is something to be said about constantly creating and applying skills versus just consuming a lot by reading. This is the challenge I am facing with iPhone development. I love love love reading about it; but it is enhanced and only materializes with the creation of something.

Relating it to the music world, one may “create” many musical ideas before settling on some that are truly cohesive and worthy of showcasing their talents…=)

Not only that, but I would also add in that even during a “crash” there is some value in having the mind agile. This provides time to not only reflect upon the recent activity, but perhaps deeply consider and contemplate the next steps forward. Sometimes, one of the best things we can do is take a step back and simply observe our own intended actions and thoughts.

Here’s something that keeps me going. When I wake up in the morning, I think about what I want to do to improve my business. At night when I go to sleep, I think about what I did to improve my business. This checks and balance approach really helps me stay focused and determined to get the work I need done.
