I talked about an epiphany in Fulfilled vs Excited post. What epiphany was that partying all night or vacation would leave me feeling empty next day or week. But working on a project or reading a book on a new API makes me feel fulfilled. But I wasn’t so sure what it meant. Tynan posted a great post on his blog about same subject but he makes a lot more sense:

Who’s happier at the end of the day: a guy who spent twelve hours restoring his Mustang or a guy who sat on the couch and watched TV all day?

It’s so true. Movies, video games and other such activities are like energy drinks, a crash follows. But doing what engages you is like a going to gym everyday and getting in better shape. Of course, everyone needs some energy drinks now and then but they should not become your only source of energy to stay awake. Similarly movies or video games or even sky diving are great to give you a high but you need something more engaging to feel fulfilled or happy.

This is list of things I want to do before I die. I used to call it bucket list after the movie of same name. The Bucket List was a great movie about two terminally ill patients who made this list of things to do before they die. However, I didn’t realized that calling my list, Bucket List was slightly depressing. It also created some confusion as some people thought I was terminally ill too. It was embarrassing to explain that I just liked the movie.

Then I saw my old friend, Josh’s blog. He was completing the list from a book, 101 Thing to do Before You Die, by Richard Horne. Josh was updating his blog as he marks off an item on the list. It’s an awesome blog, you should read it. I haven’t read the book itself but I liked the name, 101 things. I don’t really want to follow a list by someone else, so I will continue with my list. I am sure some items will overlap on Horne’s and mine.

So here is my list:

  1. Skydive
  2. Bungee jump
  3. Run marathon
  4. Make a million dollars
  5. Start a successful company
  6. Tube at Guadalupe or any river
  7. Be a recognized photographer
  8. Go to nude beach

Okay I don’t have 101 items right now. I will add more items as I find things I am interested in. Some of the items are not easy but that’s why crossing those items will be so much more satisfying.

Urban Dare is like Great Race but on smaller scale. They give you a sheet of paper with clues. Clues point to various places in Dallas. You have to decipher those clues and visit those locations for different challenges or simply take your photo. Me and Patrick finished Dallas race in about 4 hours. Winning team did it in 2 hours but we took a lot of detours like joining some weed protestors or hanging out with people we met…
