This is the coolest video about science, technology, data and information, I have seen.

Yup this is my favorite book on Ajax. I love Head First books but this one far exceeded my expectations.
Head First Ajax
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a Java programmer with little bit of experience in web technologies. Before reading this book I had used JavaScript libraries such as Script.aculo.us. So Ajax was not a totally brand new technology for me.

I bought this book because for upcoming project, I wanted a deeper understanding of Ajax. Also sometimes, while using Scriptaculous, debugging was not easy, because I didn’t know what was really going on behind the scenes.

After reading this book, I have better understanding of Ajax. This doesn’t mean I am Ajax expert now and ready to write my own library. I will stick with existing libraries. But I feel this book has given me enough basic concepts of Ajax (and also some general web design concepts) that I can use Ajax libraries without breaking anything unintentionally.

I don’t think I will read another book on Ajax unless I am doing some custom Ajax coding.

So after almost 3 weeks of G1 use, I can say that battery life is not a problem on G1, at least for me. When I first got G1, I was using it constantly. But now that I am done playing with it and using it like I would use it, battery life is not so bad.

I still need to charge it every night unlike my last cell phone which can go on for a week with a single charge. But then again my last phone, well just a phone. With all the features that G1 provides, I think daily re-charge is a small price to pay for those. Another cool thing about is since G1 uses USB to charge, you never have to worry about about charger. My TomTom’s chatger works with G1. I have used PS3 at times to charge my phone at friend’s place. USB is just everywhere. Gotta love standards.

Since I am re-installing windows on my laptop, here is a list of apps that I run, just for my reference:

  • Firefox
  • Google Chrome
  • Quicken
  • Canon Camera Utilities
  • TortiseSVN
  • Aptana
  • WinSCP
  • Eclipse
  • Java
  • Limewire
  • gVim
  • Acrobat Reader
  • Picasa
  • .net Framework
  • Gimp

Wow thats a lot of apps to re-install.

First, I cannot believe that every year we hear but people getting trampled during Black Friday but no one do anything about it.

This year 3 people died. I think they should go back check the security videos and charge every person who stepped on these people for murder.

Anyways I was going to buy a laptop but my 5 years old laptop is still usable, so I talked myself out of it. My brother on other hand has 2 better than mine laptops but still he bought a new latop. Why do you have to buy something just for a good deal when you don’t really need.

I always used xcopy for my backing up my files. However, I always forget to backup my backup script. So after fresh install of Windows XP, I sat down to re-write my script. Then I figured that there got to be some open source simple command line backup script, somewhere. That’s when I found out this excellent vbs script for backing up in Windows. Its very easy to use and alter. Author has extensively documented it.

Go ahead try it.

Being an engineer, I love numbers. Numbers motivate me. Numbers are just cold hard facts.

So I was using Playstation 2 game, Yourself! Fitness for working out. It was great. It got some cool feature like it displays charts of your progress. Also it customize workout for you, so that you work on things you need to work on. As time goes on, it makes workouts more challenging.  During every workout routine it asks you if this routine was too easy, just right or too hard for you.

Initially when I started, I would say workout was really good. However, lately, its been too easy for me. I keep telling it that workout is too easy but I hardly notice any difference during next workout. I guess this game increase level of difficulty in very minor increments.

So lately, I am doing my own workouts, mostly push ups and crunches. But there was no way for me to track my progress, so I made this Google sheet to track my workouts. It should be fun to look at progress chart.

Then I enjoy running and biking but I normally have no idea how much I am running or if I am making progress or not. This new G1 app, let me track my runs. It, in fact, maps those runs and upload to web. Its amazing!

Ah I love technology.
