Scorsese and DiCaprio at their wildest. Three hours of excess, ambition, and the dark side of the American dream. It’s relentless, funny, and exhausting in the best way, and DiCaprio is electric the whole time.
The tricky part is that it’s so much fun to watch that you almost forget these guys are ripping off ordinary people. I think that’s the point. The movie puts you inside the high so you understand why nobody walked away. Then it shows you how little Belfort actually pays for any of it. It’s a cautionary tale that’s smart enough not to lecture you.
Long, but never boring. 4/5 stars.
