A Bollywood film that isn’t really a love story, even though it’s marketed like one. It’s about obsession, and how a man keeps chasing a woman who is carrying a pain he can’t understand.
The music is the best part. “Chaiyya Chaiyya” filmed on top of a moving train is one of the great song sequences in any movie. The romance itself is uncomfortable on purpose, and the ending is bleak in a way most Bollywood films would never attempt. Beautiful to look at, hard to fully love.
